Stepping into the field for the first time is certainly a life-changing experience...and stepping onto the kickball field with your team is no exception.
As spring rolled into summer, we knew this year held something special. For weeks we had talked about coming together and building a bond outside of work. One fateful day we finally did it, we registered for kickball.
Many of you likely have fond memories of playing kickball in gym class or on the playground during recess. Darling...let us tell you, kickball has changed - and the adult version comes complete with a handbook! Once we sifted through the pages and coordinated our carpool (no man left behind!), our fearless captain Rebekah lead our march onto the field.
As a rookie team, the odds were against us. Sure our games were filled with laughs, hilarious moments and interesting insights about our colleagues (bet you can’t guess which one of us is the most competitive!), but were they filled with wins? The short answer is no... BUT with the endless memories we made together it sure does feel like we won something.
At the end of August, as we walked on the field for our final game of the season, something magical happened. We took all the experience and lessons from our short season (for example - don’t forget to smile when you catch the ball...the league photographer is always watching) and gave our all for one last game of the season. Not saying that we know how it feels to win the World Series, but winning your final (and only) game of the season is pretty awesome.
