Take A Trip To Our Growing Regions, Darling!

July 27, 2022 | By: The Darling Dish

Darling Citrus® has been growing citrus for over 30 years thanks to several long-term growing partners around the world. This means that whether you are serving fruit to your kids at the pool, or looking for a refreshing snack after shoveling snow, you can enjoy the same delicious citrus year-round!

Citrus grows best in warmer, semi-tropical to tropical climates. Depending on the time of year, our fruit can be found growing in various exotic regions, switching seasons between the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Come along as we explore some of the top regions where we grow citrus just for you, Darling!

Northern Hemisphere

Because temperatures between 55 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit are most conducive to citrus growth, we get the majority of our fruit from our Northern growing regions from October through May.

During these months, you can find Darling Citrus® growing in Morocco to ensure that our Darling customers have the freshest citrus possible, year-round. Morocco has a Mediterranean climate with milder, rainy winters and warm summers.

Southern Hemisphere

The Southern Hemisphere has higher temperatures overall than the Northern Hemisphere, which creates a preferable growing environment for a variety of produce commodities. The Southern Hemisphere season is approximately April through November, inclusive of all countries and commodities.

Chile is one of our main growing regions in this part of the world. Our Darling Clementines®, oranges, and cara caras can all be found growing in Chile during various times of year. The rich and fertile soil makes this beautiful growing region the perfect spot to harvest the freshest Darling Citrus® possible. Chile experiences mostly dry summers and wet winters, but the weather varies drastically from region to region.

Peru is a neighbor to Chile and has a subtropical desert climate. Their excellent weather conditions along with modern technology make for ideal growing conditions for citrus. Your Darling Clementines® and minneolas can be found growing here!

Don’t forget about Darling Lemons! We partner with trusted growers out of Argentina to bring you the bright and flavorful fruit you love. In fact, Argentina grows more lemons than anywhere else in the world!

We are so thankful for our trusted growing partners who ensure that our favorite citrus is in season all year long!
