How to Squeeze Your Own Citrus Juice

January 21, 2025 | By: The Darling Dish

National Fresh Squeezed Juice Day calls for the zesty tang of freshly squeezed Darling Citrus® juice! Squeezing your own citrus at home is quick, easy and brings a burst of freshness that store-bought just can’t match. From Darling Oranges® to Darling Lemons® to Darling Grapefruit®, every squeeze is filled with sunshine and flavor. Let’s grab our citrus, roll up our sleeves and get squeezing!

Step 1: Choose Your Citrus!

What citrusy flavor are you craving? Darling Oranges® bring sweetness, Darling Lemons® a squeeze of tang, Darling Limes® a hint of zest and grapefruits a touch of tart. Use our best tips to pick out citrus that’s full of juicy goodness!

Step 2: Prep Your Citrus!

Rinse the fruit thoroughly, then roll on a countertop with your palm, applying gentle pressure. This helps to break down the membranes inside, releasing more juice.

Step 3: Slice Your Citrus!

Use a knife to carefully cut the citrus in half. For larger fruits like Darling Oranges®, Darling Minneolas®, Darling Cara Caras® or Darling Grapefruit®, consider cutting them into quarters.

Step 4: Juice Your Citrus!

Get to squeezing using one of the following juicing methods:

  • Manual Reamer or Juicer: Hold the citrus halves firmly and twist against the reamer to release the juice.
  • Handheld Citrus Squeezer: Place the citrus half cut-side down into the squeezer and press the handles together over a bowl or glass.
  • Electric Juicer: For larger quantities of juice, an electric juicer makes the job quicker and easier.
  • Hand-Squeeze: No tools, no problem! Hold a citrus half or quarter over a bowl or glass, and firmly squeeze while rotating slightly to extract the juice. Place a small strainer beneath the citrus to catch any seeds as you squeeze.

Step 5: Strain

If you prefer pulp-free juice, pour the juice through a fine mesh strainer to remove pulp and seeds. For extra flavor and nutrients, leave the pulp in!

Step 6: Enjoy

For the freshest flavor, enjoy the juice immediately. When it comes to enjoying freshly-squeezed Darling Citrus® juice, the options are endless! Kickstart your day with a vibrant glass of Darling Orange® juice, top a salad with a zesty Darling Lemon® marinade, or level up your dinner entree with a Darling Minneola® glaze.
