The Need to Know About Minneolas

Written by Darling Dish | October 7, 2021

Have you ever had a minneola? You’d know it if you have! They have a very recognizable knob-like shape, and they are oh so juicy.

Darling Minneolas are grown in Peru from mid-July through September.  Minneolas are actually part of the tangelo family, so they’re a hybrid of a grapefruit and a tangerine.

If you don’t end up eating minneolas as a snack (which we love to do!), there are so many recipes that showcase the best parts of minneolas, and these are some of our favorites:

Slow Cooker Darling Minneola Chipotle Pork

Minneola juice and zest bring bright flavors that perfectly contrast the bold notes of adobo and BBQ sauce in this Slow Cooker Chipotle Pork recipe. Oregano, garlic, and brown sugar enrich the taste of the slow-cooked pork. This recipe is super versatile as the pork can be enjoyed between two fluffy buns as a sandwich, in a taco, on top of nachos, or even enjoyed alone!

Pro-Tip: Store your minneolas in the refrigerator to maximize their freshness. When refrigerated, they can last for up to two weeks! The fresher it is, the sweeter the flavor!

Minneola Tangerine Buttermilk Scones

These buttermilk scones are nothing without the Minneolas’ naturally sweet flavor and bright orange color! Whether enjoyed as a nice sweet treat or a morning wake-up call, these Minneola Scones pair well with coffee or tea, and you could even incorporate cranberries and nuts of choice into the batter for another level of flavor.

Chicken With Minneola Sauce

Minneolas highlight the pico de gallo style salsa that sits atop this grilled chicken. Flavors of ginger, mustard, and lemon in the marinade pair well with the cilantro and chili in the salsa. These bright and bold flavors of the minneola sauce will make this a favorite in your home!

Pro-Tip: The juice of a minneola is good for several days when stored in the refrigerator. The sweet and tart flavor makes this juice a great complement to other citrus juices.
