Written by Darling Dish | July 1, 2021

Fireworks aren't the only fun your kids can have on this Fourth of July! Meet your kids in the kitchen for a few fun activities before the fireworks start.

Lemon Mini Cheesecakes

Baking is a great activity for kids! These Mini Darling Lemon® Cheesecakes With Gingersnap Crust are perfect for little hands to assemble. This recipe is so easy and fun to make - your kids will be proud of their creation. Plus, the light and creamy taste of these little treats are irresistible for adults and kids alike!

Tip: Top with fresh blueberries and cranberries for a patriotic flair!

Citrus Cacao Power Bites

Delicious? Check! Fun to make? Check! These Citrus and Cacao Power Bites are packed with delicious ingredients that will give you just the push you need to start a busy holiday weekend. Kids will have a blast in the kitchen helping prepare them and will have even more fun eating them!

Darling Clementines Salsa

This recipe calls for an expert mix - and who better to mix than your little one? While the kids peel the easy-to-peel clementines, you can chop the onion, tomatoes, and cilantro. This recipe is as easy as chopping and mixing these ingredients together, and mixing is a great job for the junior chef of the house!

Tip: If your kids don’t like spicy food, simply leave out the jalapenos!

Teachable Moments

The kids can still learn at home, even when school isn’t in session!

If you have a little scientist in the family, they are sure to love this citrus explosion! Thanks to Science Buddies on Youtube, who share a quick video on how to Make a Lemon Volcano, you can create a fun science experiment in your backyard with ingredients you likely already have on hand.

Here's how it works:

  1. Cut a lemon in half and use a spoon to scoop out a bit of the lemon
  2. Add a few drops of food coloring inside
  3. Pour baking soda on top
  4. Use a butter knife to push the baking soda inside of the lemon and mix it up
  5. Watch as the baking soda foams and overflows like a volcanic explosion
  6. Experiment with different types of citrus to see if they have the same reaction

What will you and your little ones create for the Fourth of July?

Note: children should not attempt these activities unattended. Please only attempt with a parent or guardian.

This summer, we’re donating over 5,000 pounds of citrus to support Brighter Bites, an organization dedicated to providing underserved communities with fresh produce and education around healthier eating habits - and you can help! Learn more here.
