The avocado is said to have originated in Mexico as far back at 10,000 B.C. Needless to say, the country has had plenty of time to practice the art of growing the perfect avocado. These days, the United States looks to Mexico for about 85 percent of the avocados we consume. Its mild climate creates ideal conditions to grow avocados year-round, making it the best source for our Suavo Avocados®.

Production continues to increase to supply the ever-increasing demand of this beloved superfood, with Mexican Hass avocado production projected to exceed 1 million tons for the 2019-2020 season. That’s a lot of guacamole (speaking of guacamole, did you know that on Super Bowl Sunday alone, Americans have been recorded to consume 240 million avocados during the week of the game?!). 

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at one packing facility in Mexico. Believe it or not, it’s quite a process to ensure that an avocado like your Suavo Avocados® are top quality. There is an extensive sorting process that organizes them by size, shape, and ripeness, and then each are inspected before they are packaged and shipped to the store.
